Hockeytown Café

Address: 2301 Woodward ave.
Hockeytown Café (Detroit)
MI., 48201

Opened in 1999, the Hockeytown Café is the most innovative, exciting restaurant concept to hit Detroit in years. Located at 2301 Woodward (next to the Fox Theatre), the venue encompasses a 24,000 square-foot restaurant and bar that pay tribute to Detroit's storied Red Wings hockey organization, its players and the greatest hockey fans in the world – the Citizens of Hockeytown. Occupying a cool corner spot in Foxtown, Hockeytown Café lights up the Detroit skyline with a 60-foot long Red Wings/Hockeytown Café sign, a 12'x 9' video screen and a 116-foot long Hockeytown sportsticker that continuously scrolls updates on Red Wings games and upcoming Café events. Both the outdoor video screen and televisions throughout the Hockeytown Café carry the live in-arena video and audio of Red Wings games directly on fiber optics from Joe Louis Arena. Enter the revolving doors and enter Hockeytown. Combining a history of hall of fame displays, the excitement and energy of an actual Red Wings' game and a menu that is sure to tempt your taste buds. From the life-size statues of Gordie Howe and Steve Yzerman to the original 1962 Zamboni, the signatures of Hockeytown heroes engraved in the granite Walk of Fame, the bronze busts the five players whose numbers have been retired, the interactive wall that includes all the current Red Wings…all this and you have yet to move through the main lobby of the facility. One of the most unique aspects of the Hockeytown Café is the 30' x 10' bar that surrounds a 7-inch wide sheet of ice that is cooled by the same type of coils that preserve the ice at Joe Louis Arena. The ring of ice that will keep drinks ice cold is the ?argest and one of just three in the world (the other two are in Miami and Las Vegas).
